Helen Morrison is a local Clevedon Artist, where the surrounding local landscape heavily influences her oil paintings. Her home studio is open by appointment, she participates in local art initiatives such as the Clevedon Art Trail and the Franklin Arts Trail. In June 2023 Helen had her first solo exhibition at the Franklin Arts Center, in Pukekohe. Her work is influenced by the expressionist movement and artists such as Toss Woollaston and Petrus Van der Velden. Having previously studied design, Helen continues to develop her practice through weekly mentoring sessions with a local artist.

She paints to respond to the landscapes that surround her, each work is a personal reaction to it. Through painting on canvas she engages in a visual conversation with the land, using layers of colour and shape to reflect how she sees it. Helen aims to capture the emotions, movement, power, drama, beauty and spirit within the landscape, often exploring the sublime and the deep connection she feels to the environment. Helen’s goal is to create works that tap into deep feelings.
